[edit] About
Gwangju [1] is a cultural center of South Jeolla Province.
Intent on illuminating and re-interpreting international contemporary art from the standpoint of Asia, the 6th Gwangju Biennale 2006 takes 'Asia' as its theme. The title Fever Variations reflects the cultural abundance of Asia-its multiple significances and the ways it affects the world with its vibrant energy and enthusiasm for change.
Fever Variations refers to musical variation of not fever but the hot season or the hot wind. It reflects regional interests in art.
It translates roughly as follows.
"Asia is in transition. The event is a spontanous and momentous networking and preserves moments and evidences as such. It shows workshops and projects as they progress as ways to show the process. Cooperative residencies are in progress with artists from various backgrounds and countries. Seeing and exhibiting processes, we attempt to engage in new dialogues."
