Born into the family of Thai diplomat, he grew up in Argentina, Ethiopia, Thailand, Canada, and other countries. He is known for his participatory installations, especially those in which he cooks; the exhibition serves as a document of the opening event, exploring issues of social experience, the artist's role as provider, and the mix of high art and conventional activity. He has helped found The Land, a collaborative sustainability community near Chiang Mai, Thailand. He was the winner of the 2004 Hugo Boss Prize.
